Troubleshooting: game plan graphics not showing

Fixes for common game plan issues: nothing showing, the wrong graphics, the scorebug not returning, missing ads, shootouts and timing.

If your Automated Game Plan isn't putting graphics on air the way you expect, work through the fixes below. Most problems come down to the overlay's theme profile, the Control Room setting, or how a playlist is built.

Nothing shows when Manual is off

  1. Check the overlay's theme profile. On the Matches table, expand the match, open the menu on the overlay's row and click Configure. In the UPDATE OVERLAY window, check Theme Profile in the Graphics section.

  2. Check the game plan is assigned to that competition and theme profile. Open the game plan in the Automation tab and look at its competitions. A game plan is tied to one theme, so it can't run on a competition that uses a different theme.

  3. Check Manual is turned off at the top of the Control Room. The game plan only runs the graphics automatically when Manual is off. See Switch between Manual and Auto in the Control Room.

  4. In the overlay window's Playout section, check the Auto Mode toggle is on. It's on by default.

  5. Check there's a default scorebug on In Game (Live). On Rive themes, in-play automation needs it. See The Default playlist: your scorebug during play.

  6. Refresh the overlay.

The wrong graphics appear on an output

The overlay is probably on the wrong theme profile. For example, a scoreboard-only feed set to the full-graphics profile will show full-screen graphics. Change the overlay's Theme Profile, click Update and refresh it. See Running a full-graphics feed and a scoreboard-only feed.

My changes aren't showing

Save the playlist, then refresh the overlay. A loaded overlay doesn't pick up changes until it's refreshed.

Two graphics show at once, or the wrong one wins

Check playlist priorities in Configure > Show Advanced Options. Priority 1 is the highest and 4 the lowest. When two playlists trigger together, the higher priority one wins and can take over one that's already running. A typical setup is goals highest, cards high, milestone and stats graphics lower, and time-triggered sponsor playlists at 4. See Playlist priority and guards explained.

The scorebug doesn't come back after an event

  • A live playlist should end by returning to the scorebug. Add a Show scorebug or Hide all except scorebug action as the final step. The app shows a red warning icon when this is missing.

  • Hide all clears every graphic, including the scorebug. Use Hide all except scorebug if you want it to stay up.

  • For event graphics that should sit alongside the scorebug, set the item's Update Type to Update.

Players entering or About to start never fire

Those triggers come from buttons the scorer presses in the LiveScore app. They aren't relevant when data comes from an external provider. Use Time trigger playlists instead. See Setting up pre-game playlists.

Graphics fired too early, or were cut short

  • Pre-game time triggers use the scheduled kick-off time. If kick-off is delayed, switch to Manual until the match starts.

  • Give every item its own start second. Two transitions on one second can wipe each other.

  • Leave about 2 seconds between items so animations finish cleanly. A Hide all placed exactly on an item's end time can cut its out-animation short.

The scorebug disappears during a shootout

Open the default scorebug and turn on Show during shootout under Trigger Playlists. Also remember that playlists with the isNotPenaltyShootout guard won't run during a shootout.

A graphic is empty or shows placeholder text

  • Check the graphic's variables, for example Event set to the incoming fact, or the right Team selected.

  • Add a guard so the playlist only runs when the data exists (for example players on the fact, or line-ups complete).

  • Check the match data has what the graphic needs, for example the scorer logged on the goal.

Ads aren't showing

  • The overlay's Ad Type is Brands and Enable Ads is on.

  • The ad is in the right playlist and the playlist is firing.

  • For in-graphic ads, the graphic needs an ad area. If no Assets section appears when you edit it in a playlist, the graphic has no ad area.

  • For club ad slots, the club has uploaded their advert on the Ad Slots page of the Club Portal.
