Running a game plan: Manual on or off in the Control Room

How a game plan runs the graphics when Manual is off in the Control Room, when to turn Manual on, and what to check on match day.

The Manual switch at the top of the Control Room decides who controls the graphics. With Manual turned off, the game plan runs the graphics automatically. With Manual on, you run them yourself.

Manual switch

What happens

Off

The game plan runs the graphics. Playlists fire on their triggers with no operator clicks.

On

The operator controls the graphics from the Control Room. The game plan doesn't fire.

Open the Control Room

  1. Go to the Matches tab and expand the match, for example Harbour City (HCF) v Ridgeview (RVR).

  2. Open the menu at the far right of the overlay's row and click Open Control Room.

  3. Graphics are on the right, and Teams on the left shows the line-ups. In Manual, GFX In puts a graphic on air.

  4. Switch Manual off at the top to let the game plan run the graphics automatically.

For a step-by-step guide to the switch itself, see Switch between Manual and Auto in the Control Room.

What runs when Manual is off

  • Pre/Post Match & Breaks playlists fire on their triggers: pre-game, the Players Entering and About To Start buttons in LiveScore, breaks such as half time, and time triggers before kick-off.

  • During live play, the Default playlist keeps the scorebug on screen whenever no other playlist is running.

  • Event playlists, such as goals, cards and substitutions, fire from live scoring in LiveScore or from an external data provider. Time and milestone playlists fire as well.

  • When two playlists trigger together, the higher priority one wins. See Playlist priority and guards explained.

  • Live playlists normally finish with Show scorebug or Hide all except scorebug, so the scorebug comes back.

When to switch Manual on

  • Unplanned moments, such as a tribute or a special announcement.

  • Extra graphics in a break. Switch Manual on, show what you need, then switch Manual off again before the next playlist is due.

  • A delayed kick-off on external data. Time triggers count from the scheduled start, so they'd fire early. Run Manual until the match starts.

  • If something looks wrong. Switch Manual on and show just the scorebug while you investigate.

Match-day checklist

  1. The overlay uses the right Theme Profile, in the overlay window's Graphics section.

  2. The game plan is assigned to the competition and to that theme profile. A game plan only works with the theme it was built on. See How game plans connect to themes, competitions and overlays.

  3. The game plan has a default scorebug on In Game (Live). On Rive themes, in-play automation needs it.

  4. In the overlay window's Playout section, check the Auto Mode toggle. It's on by default.

  5. The Control Room has Manual switched off.

  6. If you edited the game plan, refresh the overlay.
