Themes: full walkthrough

Start here to learn how to find a LIGR theme, style it with colours, textures, fonts and animations, save a theme profile and create a control room.

Themes control how your live graphics look on air, from the scorebug and lower thirds to match ID, team lists and match stats. In the Themes tab you pick a pre-built LIGR theme, style it to suit your competition and save it as a theme profile your matches can use. This guide is for anyone who sets up graphics for a league, club or competition, and it walks you through the whole process in order.

How the Themes tab is organised

The Themes tab has three areas in its sub-navigation. You will use all three as you work through this series:

  • Theme Management: a grid of pre-built LIGR themes you can start from.

  • Theme Profiles: your saved, styled versions of a theme, each linked to a competition.

  • Control Rooms: the live control panels operators use to put your themed graphics on air.

A good way to think about it: the theme is the starting design, the theme profile is your branded version of it, and the control room is where that design gets used during a match.

Before you start

  • Your account needs the Broadcast Graphics module. Themes and overlays are part of Graphics.

  • Create the competition you want to style first, for example LIGR Demo League. A theme profile is saved against a competition, so it needs to exist before you save.

  • Have your branding to hand, such as your main colours and the general look you want, so you can choose options quickly.

The workflow, step by step

Each step below matches a short clip and its own help article. Follow them in order the first time. Once you are comfortable, you can jump straight to the step you need.

1. Find a theme

Open Theme Management to see the pre-built LIGR themes. Use the Sport and Theme Type filters to narrow the grid. Each card shows how many graphics the theme includes and how many competitions use it. Generic themes such as LIGR FOOTBALL, Borealis, Columba, Corvus and Gemini are a good place to start. If none of them fit, REQUEST CUSTOM THEME lets you ask LIGR for a bespoke design.

2. Choose a style and colour

In the theme profile editor, the GRAPHICS & STYLES tab lists the graphics on the left (such as Lower Third, Match ID, Scorebug, Team Lists and Match Stats), shows a live preview in the centre and holds the styling controls on the right. With the Theme toggle selected, pick a base style from Theme 1 to Theme 8, then choose a Colour such as Navy, Black And Gold, Red And Blue or Teal. These choices apply to every graphic in the theme.

3. Add a texture and font

Still in the Theme toggle, add a Texture to give your graphics a background pattern. Options include Arrows, Dots, Lines, Slashes, Stripes and Triangles, or No Texture for a clean look. You can also choose Custom Image. Then pick a Font from Font 1 to Font 7. Check the preview to make sure names and scores are still easy to read.

4. Set animations and edges

Choose how graphics animate on and off screen with Animations: Circle, Diamond, Dots, Line, Plus or None. Then finish the look with Edges: Dashes, Dots, Gold, Silver or No Edges. Use REPLAY ANIMATION or Loop Animation under the preview to watch the animation as viewers will see it.

5. Style a single graphic

Sometimes one graphic needs to be different. Select it in the list and switch the right panel to the Graphic toggle. Here you can change its Scale % and Position X/Y, or click RESET to go back to the default. Under Theme Variables you can override the Theme, Colour, Texture or Font for that graphic only. Anything left as Inherit (value) keeps the theme-wide setting. An orange dot appears next to any graphic with overrides.

6. Save your theme profile

Open the DETAILS & SETTINGS tab. Enter a Profile Name, choose the Competition it belongs to and click CREATE THEME PROFILE. Your profile then appears under Theme Profiles. The Automation & Control Room section on this tab shows Unassigned until you assign or generate a Game Plan and a Control Room.

7. Create a control room

A control room is where operators put your themed graphics on air during a match. Go to Control Rooms, where existing rooms are listed with their theme and edit and delete options. Click CREATE CONTROL ROOM, enter a Control Room Name, choose the Theme and save. You can then link it to your theme profile in the Automation & Control Room section.

Tips and common mistakes

  • Set your theme-wide choices first, then use single-graphic overrides only where you need them. This keeps your graphics consistent and easier to update later.

  • Look for the orange dot if one graphic looks different from the rest. It means that graphic has its own overrides.

  • Preview several graphics before saving, not just the scorebug. A colour or texture that suits one graphic may make text harder to read on another.

  • Use clear profile names, such as LIGR Demo League Main, so the right profile is easy to find when you have several competitions.

  • If you save and cannot pick your competition, check that it has been created first.
