How to add a venue

Create a venue in Assets so you can set it as a club's home ground, pick it for matches and show its name on your match graphics.

Venues are the grounds, stadiums and courts where your matches are played. A venue needs to exist in LIGR Live before you can set it as a club's home venue or pick it for a match. This article walks you through creating one in the Assets tab.

Where venues fit in your setup

When you set up a competition, it helps to work in this order: Competition, Venue, Club and Team, a second Club and Team, then the Match. Venues come early because clubs and matches both point to them. If you try to create a club or a match first, your venue will not be in the dropdown yet, and you will have to come back and add it.

You do not need any paid modules to create venues. Any user who can manage assets can add them.

Open the Venues page

  1. Click Assets in the left sidebar.

  2. Click Venues. You will see a list of any venues already created for your organisation.

  3. Click the red Create a Venue button at the top right of the page. The venue form opens.

Fill in the venue details

Name

This is the venue's name inside LIGR Live. It is what you will see in lists and dropdowns when you choose a home venue for a club or a venue for a match. Use the full, official name so it is easy to find, for example LIGR Demo Stadium.

Graphics Display Name

This is how the venue appears on your broadcast graphics, such as the match ident shown before kick-off. It can be different from the Name. A shorter version often looks cleaner on screen, for example Demo Stadium instead of the full name. Check the spelling carefully, because this is the text your viewers will see.

Venue Address

Start typing the address, then pick the correct match from the list of suggestions that appears. Selecting an address from the list, rather than just typing it and moving on, makes sure the address is saved properly.

Add Area (optional)

Use Add Area if the venue has separate areas you want to record, such as a grandstand or a second pitch. This is handy for grounds that host more than one game at a time. If your venue is a single field or court, you can skip this step.

Save the venue

When the details look right, click Create Venue. The venue is saved and added to your Venues list.

From now on, the venue is available in two places:

  • Clubs: you can set it as a club's home venue when you create or edit a club.

  • Matches: you can pick it from the venue dropdown when you create a match, for example Harbour City (HCF) v Ridgeview (RVR) at LIGR Demo Stadium.

Tips and common mistakes

  • Venue missing from a dropdown? It has not been created yet. Go to Assets, then Venues, and add it first.

  • Avoid duplicates. Check the Venues list before creating a new venue. Two entries for the same ground can lead to the wrong one being picked for a match.

  • Keep the Graphics Display Name short. Long names can crowd your graphics. Save the full name for the Name field.

  • Create shared grounds once. If several clubs use the same ground, one venue can be used for all of them.

With your venue ready, the next step is to create a club. Clubs hold your teams and share their logo, colours and home venue with them.
