How to create a competition

Create a competition in LIGR Live: choose the sport, set the names used across LIGR and on graphics, add age group, gender and division, and upload images.

Everything in LIGR starts with a competition. A competition is your league, tournament or season, and every match you create sits inside one. This article shows you how to create a competition from the Assets tab and explains what each field does.

Open the competition form

  1. Click the Assets tab.

  2. Open Competitions. You'll see a list of any competitions your organisation already has.

  3. Click Create a Competition (the red button, top right).

Fill in the competition details

The form asks for the sport and three versions of the competition name. Each name has a different job, so it's worth taking a moment to get them right.

Sport

Pick the sport this competition is for. In the video, Football is selected. The sport you choose determines which match rules and options make sense for the competition, so choose it first.

Competition Name

This is the name you'll see across LIGR, for example in your competitions list and when you create matches. Use the full, official name so your team can find it easily, such as LIGR Demo League.

Graphics Display Name

This is how the competition name appears on your broadcast graphics. It can match the Competition Name, or you can tidy it up for viewers. For example, you might keep a season or internal note in the Competition Name but show only LIGR Demo League on screen.

Competition Short Name

A short version of the name, up to ten characters. Graphics use it where space is tight, such as a scorebug. Pick something viewers will still recognise, for example LDL or DEMO LGE.

Set the age group, gender and division

Next, choose the age group, gender and division. These details make sure the right teams and matches line up with this competition. When you later add teams such as Harbour City (HCF) and Ridgeview (RVR), and create matches between them, LIGR uses these details to keep everything in the right place.

Upload your images

Your competition needs images that appear on graphics and overlays.

  • Competition logo (required): the main logo for the competition.

  • Primary watermark (required): the main watermark shown on your broadcast.

  • Secondary watermark (optional): an extra watermark if you need one.

To upload an image, click the upload button, choose your file, crop the image and remove the background if needed, then click Save. Repeat for each image.

Create the competition

Click Create Competition. The competition is added to your list in Assets > Competitions. You can open it at any time to edit its details, update its images or check which teams are assigned to it.

The next step is to set the match rules that every new match in this competition starts with, such as period length and stats tracking. Setting these once saves you entering them for every match.

Tips and common mistakes

  • Can't click Create Competition? Check that the competition logo and primary watermark are both uploaded. They're required.

  • Short name cut off? The Competition Short Name allows up to ten characters. Use a clear abbreviation rather than trimming a long name.

  • Use transparent images where you can. Logos and watermarks with the background removed look cleaner over live video.

  • One competition per age group, gender and division. If you run several grades, create a separate competition for each so teams and matches stay organised.

  • Check the Graphics Display Name before you go live. It's what viewers actually see on screen.
