Scoring AFL Matches in the LiveScore App

Written by Julian Rodrigues
Updated today

The LiveScore App lets you capture live Match Facts for an AFL match — including goals, behinds, and other key events — so they feed directly into LIGR Live graphics, the Match Centre, and the Review Page.

Before You Start

Before scoring an AFL match, make sure the following are in place:

• The Match has been created in LIGR Live under the correct Competition

• Both Teams are assigned to the Match

• You have been given the Live Scorer role (or higher) for the Organisation

• You have the LiveScore App installed on your mobile device and are signed in

• The Match has the appropriate Data Coverage level set

3. From the match list, find the AFL Match you want to score.

4. Tap the Match to open the scoring view.

Starting the Match

1. Confirm the two Teams shown are correct.

2. Tap Start Match to begin the first quarter.

3. The clock will begin tracking, and Match Facts you record will be timestamped against the current period.

Managing Periods

AFL matches are played across four quarters. Use the period controls to:

• End the current quarter

• Start the next quarter

• Mark half time and full time

Each period change is recorded as a Match Fact and can be used to trigger graphics through an Automated Game Plan.

Recording Scoring Events

AFL scoring is captured through two primary Match Facts: Goals and Behinds.

Recording a Goal

1. Tap the scoring Team's panel.

2. Select Goal.

3. Choose the Player who scored from the Team's player list.

4. Confirm to save the Match Fact.

The team score will update by 6 points automatically.

Recording a Behind

1. Tap the scoring Team's panel.

2. Select Behind.

3. Choose the Player responsible, if required by your Data Coverage level.

4. Confirm to save the Match Fact.

The team score will update by 1 point automatically.

Recording Other Match Facts

Depending on the Data Coverage set for the Match, you may also be able to record additional events such as:

• Substitutions

• Period start and end

• Other tagged events used for Moments and Highlights

Tap the relevant Team or event button, then follow the prompts to select the Player and confirm.

Editing or Deleting a Match Fact

If you record an event incorrectly:

1. Open the match event list or timeline in the LiveScore App.

2. Tap the Match Fact you want to change.

3. Choose Edit to update the details, or Delete to remove it.

Any changes sync back to LIGR Live and update the score and graphics in the Control Room.

Ending the Match

1. After the final quarter, tap End Match.

2. Confirm the final score is correct.

3. Once confirmed, the Match is closed for scoring and the Review Page becomes available.

Tips

• Keep your device on charge and connected to reliable internet — Match Facts sync in real time.

• Assign a dedicated Live Scorer for the match so the Gameday Operator in the Control Room can focus on overlays.

• Double-check the scoring Team before tapping Goal or Behind — it is the most common source of errors.

• Coordinate with the Control Room before making edits to past Match Facts, as corrections may trigger graphics to update on the live stream.

Common Issues

Match Facts are not appearing in the Control Room

• Check your device's internet connection.

• Confirm you opened the correct Match in the LiveScore App.

• Ask an Admin to verify your Live Scorer permissions.

The player list is empty for a Team

• Players must be added to the Team in LIGR Live before the Match starts.

• Return to the Team's asset page and add the missing Players, then reopen the Match in the LiveScore App.

The score is incorrect after editing an event

• Open the event timeline and review each Match Fact for the affected Team.

• Delete any duplicate or incorrect entries and re-enter them if needed.

I can't start the next quarter

• Make sure you have ended the current quarter first using the period controls.
