How to Override Automated Graphics

Written by Julian Rodrigues
Updated today

Overriding automated graphics lets you take manual control of overlays during a live match, so you can trigger, hide, or replace graphics that would otherwise be managed by an Automated Game Plan.

When You Might Need to Override

Even with a well-configured Automated Game Plan, there are moments when you need to step in manually. Common reasons include:

• A Match Fact was recorded incorrectly in the LiveScore App and the wrong graphic played

• You want to show a sponsor or lower third that isn't part of the current Playlist

• A graphic needs to be hidden early or held on screen longer than its default duration

• You need to display a one-off Graphic that isn't covered by the Game Plan

• The broadcast flow requires a manual moment, such as an interview or replay

Before You Start

Make sure you have:

• A Match created under a Competition with a Theme Instance applied

• Access to the Control Room via the Production Link

• Gameday Operator, User, Admin, or Owner permissions

Overriding a Graphic in the Control Room

1. Open the Control Room

Open the Production Link for your Match. This loads the Control Room, where you can see the Automated Game Plan running alongside the list of available Graphics and Playlists.

2. Take Manual Control of a Graphic

To override an automated Graphic while it is on screen:

1. Locate the active Graphic in the Control Room.

2. Use the hide or take-down control to remove it from the output before its automated duration ends.

3. If you need to re-show it, trigger the same Graphic manually from the Graphics list.

3. Trigger a Graphic Manually

To play a Graphic that the Automated Game Plan wouldn't normally trigger:

1. Find the Graphic you want in the Control Room's Graphics panel.

2. Select it to preview the data it will display.

3. Trigger it to push it live to the overlay output.

4. Override a Playlist

If an automated Playlist is running (for example, a pre-match lineup sequence) and you need to interrupt it:

1. Stop the active Playlist from the Control Room.

2. Trigger the individual Graphic or new Playlist you want to run instead.

3. Resume the Automated Game Plan when you're ready to hand control back.

Switching Between Automated and Manual Mode

If you expect to override frequently, you can switch the Match into Manual Mode. In Manual Mode, no Graphics are triggered automatically by Match Facts — every Graphic is played by the operator from the Control Room.

• Use Automated Game Plan when you want hands-off operation driven by Match Facts.

• Use Manual Mode when you want full control over every Graphic trigger.

You can switch modes from the Control Room depending on how much automation you want for that Match.

Tips

• Keep a Monitoring Link open on a second screen so you can see exactly what's going to air before and after an override.

• If a Match Fact was logged incorrectly, ask your Live Scorer to correct it in the LiveScore App — this can prevent repeat incorrect Graphics.

• Use the Sponsor Loop between major Graphics rather than overriding with manual sponsor plays, where possible.

• Preview a Graphic before triggering it live to check the data is correct.

Common Issues

An automated Graphic keeps replaying after I hide it This usually means a new Match Fact is being recorded in the LiveScore App. Check with your Live Scorer, or switch to Manual Mode if the automation is causing conflicts.

I triggered a Graphic manually but it didn't appear on the stream Confirm your Input is connected and the Control Room is sending to the correct output. Check the Monitoring Link to see if the Graphic is rendering.

The Automated Game Plan stopped after I overrode a Playlist Manually stopping a Playlist can pause parts of the Game Plan. Re-enable the Automated Game Plan from the Control Room to resume automated triggers.

I can't see the override controls Your user role may not have Control Room access. Owners, Admins, Users, and Gameday Operators can operate the Control Room; Live Scorers and Media Viewers cannot.
