Assigning a Competition to a Match

Written by Julian Rodrigues
Updated today

Assigning a Competition to a Match links your fixture to a league or tournament in LIGR Live, which controls the Theme Instance, graphics, and settings applied during the broadcast.

Why Competitions Matter for Matches

Every Match in LIGR Live must belong to a Competition. The Competition determines:

• The Theme Instance and graphic styling used in the Control Room

• Which Teams are available to select for the Match

• The Ad Set Allocation applied to sponsor graphics

• Default match settings such as period length and Data Coverage

Without a Competition assigned, you cannot create a Match or generate overlays.

Prerequisites

Before assigning a Competition to a Match, make sure you have:

• Created at least one Competition under the Assets tab

• Added at least two Teams to that Competition

• A Theme Instance configured for the Competition

Assigning a Competition During Match Creation

The Competition is assigned at the start of the Match creation process.

1. Go to the Matches tab in your Organisation.

2. Click Create Match.

3. In the Match creation form, select the Competition from the dropdown.

4. Once selected, the available Teams list will filter to only show Teams assigned to that Competition.

5. Choose the home Team and away Team.

6. Set the match date, time, and Venue.

7. Click Save to create the Match.

What Happens After Assignment

Once a Competition is assigned:

• The Match inherits the Competition's Theme Instance

• Ad Sets allocated to the Competition automatically apply

• The Game Plan linked to the Competition is loaded into the Control Room

• Match Facts recorded in the LiveScore App feed into the Competition's data

Changing the Competition on an Existing Match

In most cases, the Competition cannot be changed after a Match has been created, because it affects Teams, graphics, and data. If you need to move a Match to a different Competition:

1. Delete or archive the existing Match.

2. Create a new Match under the correct Competition.

3. Reassign Teams, Venue, and match details.

Tips

• Set up your Competition, Theme Instance, and Ad Set Allocations before creating Matches to avoid rework.

• If a Team does not appear in the Teams dropdown, check that it has been assigned to the selected Competition under the Assets tab.

• Use clear, consistent Competition names (e.g. season and division) so operators can quickly identify them when creating Matches.

Common Issues

No Competitions appear in the dropdown: You have not created any Competitions yet. Go to Assets > Competitions to add one.

Teams are missing from the Match form: The Teams have not been added to the selected Competition. Open the Competition and assign the Teams first.

Graphics look wrong after creation: The Competition's Theme Instance may not be configured. Check the Competition's Theme Instance settings before the Match goes live.

Unable to edit the Competition on a saved Match: This is expected behaviour. Create a new Match under the correct Competition instead.
