Assigning a Theme Instance to a Competition overlay sets the visual look and graphics configuration used for every Match created under that Competition.
What Is a Theme Instance?
A Theme is a platform-level visual template built by the LIGR team that defines the look and feel of all graphics. Themes are assigned to your Organisation and cannot be edited directly by customers.
A Theme Instance is a customer-level configuration of a Theme. It lets you tailor the Theme to a specific Competition overlay by setting the values and assets (such as colours, logos, and layout options) that the Theme exposes for configuration. For example, one Theme Instance may drive a full media output for a Competition, while another drives a secondary output with a different look.
Theme Instances are assigned at the Competition overlay level (Competition, Settings, Streams and Overlays, Overlay Settings). A Competition can have multiple overlays, and each overlay has its own Theme Instance and Automated Game Plan.
Assigning a Theme Instance to a Competition overlay ensures that:
• All Matches in the Competition inherit the same graphics look for that overlay
• Graphics use the correct colours, logos, and layouts for the Competition
• Automated Game Plans trigger the correct graphics configuration for that overlay

Before you begin, make sure you have:

Once saved, every new Match created under this Competition will use the assigned Theme Instance on that overlay by default.
Using Multiple Overlays and Theme Instances
A single Competition can have multiple overlays, each with its own Theme Instance and Automated Game Plan. This is useful when you broadcast a Competition to more than one destination, for example a main media output and a secondary output.
• Assign a Theme Instance to your primary overlay for the main broadcast look
• Add additional overlays with their own Theme Instances for secondary outputs
• Each overlay can run its own Automated Game Plan independently
For full details on configuring additional overlays, see the article on setting up multiple overlays.
Tips
• Set up your Theme Instance and overlay before creating Matches so each Match inherits the correct configuration from the start.
• Test your Theme Instance with a test Match before going live.
• If your Competition branding changes mid-season, updating the Theme Instance will apply the new look to future Matches.
• Keep Theme Instance names descriptive (for example, "Premier League, Main" and "Premier League, Secondary") so they are easy to tell apart.
Common Issues
Graphics are not showing the expected look
• Confirm the correct Theme Instance is assigned to the overlay on the Competition.
• Check that the Match was created after the Theme Instance was assigned.
Theme Instance dropdown is empty
• No Theme Instances have been made available for your Organisation yet. Contact LIGR support to have a Theme Instance set up before you can assign it.
Existing Matches still show the previous Theme Instance
• Theme Instance changes may only apply to new Matches. Check the Match's own settings to update an individual Match if needed.
Secondary overlay is missing graphics
• Ensure the secondary overlay has its own Theme Instance and Automated Game Plan assigned in the overlay settings.
