What is Ad Allocation?

Written by Julian Rodrigues
Updated today

Ad Allocation is the process of assigning Ad Sets to specific Competitions, Clubs, or Teams in LIGR Live so that the right sponsor graphics appear during the right matches.

Ad Allocation applies to organisations using inbuilt themes. If your organisation uses Rive themes, sponsor content is configured directly within Automated Game Plan playlists instead, and this article will not apply to your setup. Both systems are fully supported; which one you use depends on the theme type assigned to your organisation.

Overview

In LIGR Live, sponsor and advertising images are grouped together into Ad Sets. On their own, Ad Sets don't do anything; they need to be allocated to an asset before they appear in a broadcast. Allocation tells LIGR where and when an Ad Set should be used.

Think of it this way:

• Ad Set = the collection of sponsor images

• Allocation = the rule that connects that Ad Set to a Competition, Club, or Team

Which Ad System Applies to You

• Organisations using inbuilt themes: use Ad Allocation (this article) to assign Ad Sets to Competitions, Clubs, or Teams.

• Organisations using Rive themes: configure ads directly inside Automated Game Plan playlists, with rotation and timing handled at the playlist level.

If you are not sure which theme type your organisation uses, check the Theme Instance applied to your Competition's overlay under Competition > Settings > Streams and Overlays > Overlay Settings.

Why Allocation Matters

Without allocation, your sponsor graphics won't play during matches on inbuilt themes. Allocation gives you control over which sponsors appear for which matches, so you can:

• Run league-wide sponsors across every match in a Competition

• Give individual Clubs or Teams their own sponsor rotation

• Combine multiple Ad Sets so global and local sponsors play together

• Keep sponsor content relevant to each match

Where Ad Sets Can Be Allocated

You can allocate an Ad Set to any of the following:

• Competition: the Ad Set plays in every match within that Competition

• Club: the Ad Set plays in matches involving any Team from that Club

• Team: the Ad Set plays in matches involving that specific Team

When a match runs, LIGR combines all Ad Sets allocated to the Competition, the participating Clubs, and the participating Teams.

How to Allocate an Ad Set

1. Go to the Ads section in the main navigation.

2. Open the Allocation tab.

3. Select the Ad Set you want to allocate.

4. Choose the asset type: Competition, Club, or Team.

5. Pick the specific Competition, Club, or Team from the list.

6. Save the allocation.

Managing Existing Allocations

From the Allocation view you can:

• See which Ad Sets are allocated to each Competition, Club, or Team

• Remove an allocation if a sponsor deal ends

• Reassign an Ad Set to a different asset

• Add multiple allocations for the same Ad Set

Tips

• Allocate Competition-wide sponsors first, then layer Club and Team sponsors on top.

• Keep Ad Set names clear (for example, "League Sponsors 2025" or "Club A Local Partners") so allocations are easy to track.

• If a Club manages its own sponsors, you can delegate allocation through the Club Portal rather than managing it centrally.

• Review allocations at the start of each season to make sure old sponsor deals aren't still running.

Common Issues

Sponsor graphics aren't appearing in a match Check that the Ad Set is allocated to the Competition, one of the Clubs, or one of the Teams in that match. Without an allocation, nothing will play. Also confirm that the Competition's overlay is using an inbuilt theme; if it uses a Rive theme, ads are managed through the Automated Game Plan instead.

Wrong sponsors showing up An Ad Set may be allocated more broadly than intended (for example, to a Competition when it should only be on one Team). Review and remove unwanted allocations.

Duplicate sponsors playing The same sponsor image may exist in multiple Ad Sets that are all allocated to the same match. Clean up overlapping Ad Sets or remove redundant allocations.

A Club's sponsors aren't loading Confirm the Ad Set is allocated to the correct Club or to each Team within that Club.
