In LIGR Live, Clubs and Teams are two separate Assets that work together to represent the organisations and squads that play in your matches.
If you're new to LIGR, it's easy to use "club" and "team" interchangeably, but in the platform they serve different purposes. This article explains the difference, how they relate to each other, and when to use each.
The Core Difference
• A Club is the parent organisation. It holds branding, venues, and shared details that apply to every Team beneath it.
• A Team is a specific squad within a Club that actually plays in matches and is assigned to Competitions.
Think of the Club as the umbrella, and Teams as the individual squads that sit under it.

What a Club Represents
A Club is the top-level identity for a sports organisation. You create a Club once, then add as many Teams under it as you need.
Clubs typically hold:
• Club name and logo
• Primary and secondary colours
• Default Venue
• Club-level branding used across its Teams
Because Clubs hold shared branding, any Team created under a Club can inherit this information rather than having it re-entered each time.
When to Use a Club
Use a Club when you are setting up a sports organisation that fields more than one Team — for example, a football club with a senior men's side, a senior women's side, and multiple junior squads.
Even if the organisation currently only has one Team, you still create a Club first, because every Team must belong to a Club.
What a Team Represents
A Team is the Asset that actually appears in Matches and Competitions. Teams are what show up on your Scorebugs, lineup graphics, and match data.
Teams typically hold:
• Team name (e.g. "Under 18s", "First Grade", "Women's")
• The Club they belong to
• Players assigned to that Team
• Competition assignments

When to Use a Team
Use a Team whenever you need an entity that will:
• Be assigned to a Competition
• Play in a Match
• Appear on overlays and graphics
• Hold a specific group of Players
How Clubs and Teams Work Together
The relationship is simple: one Club can have many Teams, but each Team belongs to only one Club.
Here is the typical order of setup:
1. Create the Club first, with its logo, colours, and Venue.
2. Create one or more Teams under that Club.
3. Assign Players to each Team.
4. Assign the Teams to a Competition.
5. Create Matches between Teams.

Tips
• Set up your Club branding carefully before creating Teams — it saves time across every Team and Match later.
• Name Teams clearly so operators can tell them apart in the Control Room (e.g. "Eastside FC — Under 16s Boys" rather than just "Under 16s").
• Assign a default Venue at the Club level if most Teams play home matches at the same ground.
• If a Club only fields one Team, still give the Team a descriptive name rather than duplicating the Club name.
Common Issues
I can't find my Team when creating a Match. Check that the Team has been assigned to the Competition the Match sits under. Teams must be linked to a Competition before they can appear in a Match.
My Team's logo or colours look wrong on the Scorebug. Team branding is usually inherited from the Club. Review the Club profile first, then check if the Team has any overrides applied.
I created a Team but can't see it anywhere. Confirm the Team is linked to the correct Club and that the Club exists in your Organisation. Teams without a Club cannot be used.
I have two Teams with the same name from different Clubs. This is fine — LIGR distinguishes Teams by their parent Club. Use clear naming so operators can tell them apart at a glance.
