An Automated Game Plan is the set of playlists that runs your match graphics automatically. This article covers creating the game plan itself. Once it exists, you add playlists to it to control what plays and when.
Before you start
Your organisation needs the Broadcast Graphics module. Automation relies on graphics, so it isn't available without it.
You have a theme with the graphics you want to automate. A game plan is tied to one theme and uses only that theme's graphics.
At least one competition uses that theme and has a theme profile. If no competition suits the theme and sport you pick, the competition list will be empty.
Create the game plan
Click Automation in the left sidebar. This opens the Automated Game Plans page, which lists any game plans your organisation already has.
Click Create Automated Game Plan (top right).
Enter a name. Choose something your team will recognise at a glance, for example "Harbour City Night Games". If you run more than one game plan for the same competition, include the output in the name, such as "LIGR Demo League 2026 Full Graphics" or "LIGR Demo League 2026 Scoreboard Only".
Choose the theme. The game plan can only use this theme's graphics, so pick the theme your matches actually go to air with. Every graphic you add to a playlist later comes from this theme. A game plan can't be used on a competition that runs a different theme.
Choose the sport. This tells LIGR Live which competitions and match events are relevant to the game plan.
Choose the competitions to assign the game plan to. Only competitions that suit the selected theme and sport are listed. You can assign one game plan to as many competitions as you like, as long as they share the same theme and sport.
For each competition, choose the theme profile(s) this game plan should apply to.
Click Create Automated Game Plan to save.
One competition, more than one game plan
A competition can have more than one theme profile on the same theme, and each theme profile can have its own game plan. For example, LIGR Demo League could run one stream with only the scorebug, and a second stream with full automation (intros, line-ups and event graphics). To set this up, see Running a full-graphics feed and a scoreboard-only feed.
What happens next
Once you click create, the game plan opens, ready for its first playlist. At this stage it has no playlists, so it won't play anything on air yet. Playlists hold the graphics, actions, ads and multimedia, along with the triggers that decide when each item plays (for example pre-match, breaks or in-game moments).
Playlists sit on two tabs: Pre/Post Match & Breaks for before the match, breaks and after the final whistle, and In Game (Live) for live play. The In Game (Live) tab includes the Default playlist, which holds your scorebug. On Rive themes, a game plan needs a default scorebug for in-play automation to work. Learn more in Inside a game plan: Pre and Post Match and Breaks, and In Game (Live) and The Default playlist: your scorebug during play.
Your new game plan also appears in the Automated Game Plans list, showing its sport, theme, competitions and its created and updated dates.
You can also link a game plan to a theme profile from the Themes tab. Open the theme profile, go to DETAILS & SETTINGS, and use the Automation & Control Room section to assign a game plan.
To run the game plan on a match, the match's overlay must use a theme profile the game plan is assigned to, and Manual must be turned off in the Control Room. The game plan then runs the graphics automatically. See Switch between Manual and Auto in the Control Room.
Edit, rename or delete a game plan
Use the three-dot menu on the game plan's row to:
Edit settings: change the name, sport, competitions and theme profiles.
Edit playlists: open the game plan to add, change or remove playlists.
Delete: remove the game plan. Competitions that used it will no longer have it assigned.
Game plans and playlists can also be duplicated to save time. For full details, see Manage your game plans: edit, duplicate and delete.
Tips and common mistakes
Can't find your competition? Check the theme and sport you selected. A competition only appears if it suits both.
Include the competition or season in the name, such as "LIGR Demo League 2026/27", so plans are easy to tell apart next season.
Name playlists after their moment when you add them, such as "Pre-Game 8 Minutes From KO", "HT Playlist" or "Goal".
Changes apply straight away. Edits to a game plan apply to every competition using it as soon as you save. Refresh any overlay that's already open so it picks them up.
There's no version history. Before making big changes to a plan that's in use, duplicate it or note down its current settings so you can put them back if needed.
