Create an Input

Set up an input in the Streaming tab so your camera or encoder feed can come into LIGR Live, with the right type, team, venue, area and latency.

An input is where your video comes into LIGR Live, such as a camera feed or the output from an encoder. Every stream needs one input before it can start. This article shows you how to create an input in the Streaming tab and get it ready for your matches.

Before you start

  • Your organisation needs the Streaming module to create inputs and streams.

  • The team and venue you want to link the input to should already exist. If they don't, set them up first.

  • Know whether your camera or encoder sends SRT or RTMP. Check its settings or manual if you're not sure.

Open the Inputs page

  1. Click Streaming in the left sidebar.

  2. Open Inputs. You'll see a list of any inputs your organisation has already created.

  3. Click Add Input to open the new input form.

Name the input and choose a type

  1. Enter a Name. Make it clear and descriptive so you can pick it out quickly later, for example "HCF Main Camera" or "LIGR Demo Stadium Wide Camera".

  2. Choose the Input Type:

  • SRT uses a single SRT link to connect your video source. It copes well with less reliable internet connections.

  • RTMP uses an RTMP URL and a stream key. Many cameras and encoders support it.

Pick the type your camera or encoder supports. If it supports both, SRT is a good choice when your venue connection may be patchy.

Choose the team, venue and area

  1. Select the Team the input belongs to, for example Harbour City (HCF).

  2. Select the Venue where the camera is set up, for example LIGR Demo Stadium.

  3. Select the Area within that venue, such as a particular pitch or court.

Linking the input to a team, venue and area keeps things organised, especially if your venue has several pitches or courts with their own cameras. It also makes it easier to match the right feed to the right games.

Set the latency (SRT only)

If you chose SRT, set the Latency. Latency is the buffer LIGR Live uses to handle the incoming feed. A higher latency gives more room to recover from network hiccups but adds a little delay. A lower latency reduces delay but is less forgiving on an unstable connection.

You don't need to get this perfect now. You can adjust the latency later from the Stream Monitor while you're live, so you can fine-tune it once you see how the feed behaves on the day.

Save the input

When everything is filled in, choose how to save:

  • Create saves the input and adds it to your inputs list. You can assign it to streams later.

  • Create and Apply to Matches saves the input and lets you use it on your matches straight away, so it's ready when you set up or start their streams.

You can also assign an input later from the Matches tab when you add or configure a stream. Each stream uses one input.

Connect your camera or encoder

Once the input exists, you need its connection details to send video to it.

  • RTMP: click the input in your inputs list, then copy the RTMP URL and the Stream Key into your camera or encoder.

  • SRT: click the input in your inputs list, then copy the SRT link into your camera or encoder.

You can also find these details on the Stream Monitor page under the input information.

Tips and common mistakes

  • Start the stream in LIGR Live before you start sending video from your encoder. LIGR needs to be live to receive the incoming feed.

  • For RTMP, copy both the URL and the stream key. Missing either one means the feed won't connect.

  • For SRT, copy the complete link. A cut-off link is a common reason a feed doesn't arrive.

  • Watch the input indicator in the Matches table and Stream Monitor. Grey means the input exists but isn't receiving video. Red means video is coming in.

  • To swap the input on a stream, stop the stream first. You can't change the input while it's running.
