Adjust lead and lag on a highlight

Change how much video plays before and after the moment in a highlight by typing new lead and lag values or dragging the timeline handles.

Lead and lag control how much video sits either side of the moment in a highlight. If a clip starts too late, cuts off too early or runs on too long, you can fix the timing on the existing highlight without capturing it again.

What lead and lag mean

Lead is how many seconds of video come before the moment. Lag is how many seconds come after it. Together with the moment itself, they set the total length of the highlight.

By default, both lead and lag are set to 15 seconds each. For example, if Harbour City (HCF) score against Ridgeview (RVR) at 23:45, a 15 second lead and a 15 second lag captures video from 23:30 to 24:00.

You might want to change these when:

  • The build-up to a goal started earlier than usual, so the clip misses the key pass.

  • The celebration or replay runs on, and you want to include more of it.

  • The clip has dead time at the start or end that you want to trim for social media.

Before you start

  • You need access to the Multimedia tab. Highlights rely on the Streaming module, so your match must have been streamed through LIGR Live.

  • The highlight must already exist in Multimedia > Highlights.

Open the highlight

  1. Go to Multimedia > Highlights.

  2. Find the highlight you want to change. You can use the filters to narrow the list down by match.

  3. Click the highlight. It opens in full-screen view.

  4. Above the video player, click Adjust Lead and Lag.

Change the timing

The Adjust screen shows your current Lead and Lag in seconds on the right, along with the highlight's total duration. Below the preview is a timeline with the highlighted section marked out. You can change the timing in two ways, and both update the duration in real time.

Type new values

Click into the Lead or Lag field and type a new number of seconds. This is the best option when you know exactly how long you want the clip to be, for example a 10 second lead and a 5 second lag for a short social clip.

Drag the timeline handles

Drag the handle on the left of the highlighted section to move the start, and the handle on the right to move the end. The Lead and Lag fields update as you drag. This is handy when you want to trim to a specific moment you can see in the preview, such as the start of an attacking move.

Review the clip

If you change the timing while the preview is playing, playback pauses automatically. Click the button to the left of Play to jump back to the start of your new lead, then click Play to watch the full clip. If you don't like your changes, click Undo to revert them.

Apply your changes

When you're happy with the timing, click Apply Changes. The existing highlight is updated with the new lead, lag and duration. It stays in the same place in your Highlights list, so you can download, share or combine it as normal.

Tips and common mistakes

  • Your original timing isn't saved as a separate version. To go back, open Adjust Lead and Lag again and set the values to what they were before. It's worth noting the original values before you start.

  • Always watch the clip from the start before applying, so you don't cut off the key moment.

  • You can adjust the same highlight as many times as you need.

  • If most of your highlights need the same change, consider updating your highlight settings so new clips are captured with better default lead and lag.
