Adding time-triggered graphics and sponsor loops during play

Run graphics, promos and sponsor content at set times during live play with time triggers, and set priority and guards so goals and cards always win.

Time triggers let you schedule content during play, not just in response to goals, cards and other events. Use them for sponsor rotations, promos, subscribe prompts or stats at fixed points in the match. This article shows you how to build a time-triggered playlist and stop it getting in the way of match moments.

Add a time-triggered playlist

  1. In the Automation tab, open your game plan and go to In Game (Live). Click Create Playlist and name it after what it does, for example "Sponsor every 10 mins".

  2. Click Add Item to Sequence and add your items. You can add an Overlay Graphic, Action, Multimedia (for example a sponsor video or image), Advertisement or Ad Template.

  3. Set each item's start time (mm:ss) and either a duration or Loop. Drag ads and multimedia into position on the canvas.

  4. Finish with an action that brings the scorebug back, such as Show scorebug or Hide all except scorebug.

  5. Open Configure > Trigger Playlists, click Add Live Trigger and choose Time trigger (Time elapsed) from the Trigger event dropdown.

  6. Enter a time in mm:ss, for example 10:00. The playlist will trigger after this much time has elapsed in the live match.

  7. To repeat the playlist, click + Add time trigger and add more times to the same trigger, for example 20:00 and 30:00.

  8. Save.

When you attach a time trigger, a yellow note explains that this trigger defaults to priority 4 with the guards isLive and isNotPenaltyShootout. Attaching the trigger doesn't change the playlist's own priority or guards, so set those next. For more on time triggers, see Run a playlist at a set time with time triggers.

Set priority and guards

Open Configure > Show Advanced Options on the playlist. Priority 1 is the highest, 4 is the lowest and 2 is the default. When two playlists trigger together, the higher priority one wins and can take over one that's already running.

  • Set time-triggered sponsor playlists to priority 4, so goals and cards always win.

  • Add the guards isLive and isNotPenaltyShootout, so the playlist only runs during live play and never in a penalty shootout.

Show sponsors with or without the scorebug

Hide all clears every graphic, including the scorebug. To show a sponsor on its own, place Hide all at 00:00, the ad template at 00:01 with Loop off for as long as you want it on screen, then Show scorebug just after it ends. Follow the full steps in Show sponsor ads during play without the scoreboard.

To keep the scorebug up while other graphics show, start with Hide all except scorebug instead. You can also play sponsors inside the scorebug with the Live Sponsor Loop in Ad Allocation. Both approaches are valid; see Ad Allocation or playlist ads: which to use.

Test before match day

Use Preview a playlist to check the order and timing of your items. To see when your time triggers fire against a real match, use Review a match against your game plan and filter by Timed.

Tips and common mistakes

  • Graphics animate in and out, and that time is part of the item's duration. Leave about 2 seconds between items so animations finish cleanly.

  • Give every item its own start second. Two transitions on one second can wipe each other.

  • A Hide all placed exactly on an item's end time can cut its out-animation short.

  • If you see "A live playlist should end by returning to the scorebug", add Show scorebug as the final step. An orange info icon gives advice; a red warning icon flags a problem. See Playlist warnings and timing tips.

Tip: Give time-triggered sponsor playlists a lower priority than goals and cards, so match moments always win.
