Add context to a graphic

Link a Control Room graphic to match events like goals, cards and substitutions, so clicking an event brings the graphic up already filled in.

Context links a graphic to live match data. It tells the graphic which kind of moment it belongs to, such as a goal, a card or a substitution. When your operator clicks that event on the Events tab, the right graphic comes up with the details already filled in, so there is no scrolling and no typing on match day.

Before you start

  • The graphic you want to link is already in your Control Room, for example a goal lower third in the FIRST HALF or SECOND HALF section.

  • The graphic has an Event control set to Type FACT. See Choosing the controls your operator sees.

  • Events are coming in from the LiveScore app (score.ligr.live) or from an external data feed. Goals, cards and substitutions logged there appear on the Control Room Events tab.

How context works

Without context, a graphic is just a template. Your operator has to find it in the list and fill in the player, team and other details by hand before taking it to air. With context, the graphic knows which event type it should respond to. When an event of that type is selected, the Control Room filters the graphics list to the graphics that match it and fills in their values from the event.

For example, in Harbour City (HCF) v Ridgeview (RVR), the scorer logs a goal for HCF in the LiveScore app. It lands on the Events tab. Your operator clicks it and the goal graphic appears with the scorer's name and number ready to go.

Set up context

  1. In your Control Room, find the graphic and click the three-dot menu (⋮) on its row.

  2. Select Edit. The edit panel opens with the Details, Variables and Context tabs.

  3. Open the Context tab.

  4. Set the context type to match what the graphic shows. For a goal graphic, choose Goal Event.

  5. Under Context Values, set Fact to Event. This connects the graphic's Event control to the event your operator clicks.

  6. Click UPDATE GRAPHIC to save your changes. If you close the panel without updating, the context is not saved.

Choosing the right context type

Pick the context type that matches the moment the graphic is designed for:

  • Goal lower third: use Goal Event.

  • Yellow or red card lower third: use Card Event.

  • Substitution lower third (player off and player on): use Substitution Event.

You can give several graphics the same context type. For example, you might have a goal lower third and a full screen goal graphic both set to Goal Event. When your operator clicks a goal, both appear in the filtered list so they can choose which one to use.

Test it

  1. Log a test event in the LiveScore app, for example a goal for HCF #9.

  2. Open the Events tab in the Control Room. The goal appears within a few seconds.

  3. Click the goal. A chip such as Goal Event appears, and the graphics list filters to the graphics linked to that event type, already filled in.

  4. Click Preview to check the details look right, then click GFX IN to take the graphic to air. A red outline shows it is live, and its name appears as a chip in the top bar.

  5. Click GFX OUT, or the cross on the chip in the top bar, to take it off air.

  6. Click × on the event chip to clear the filter and return to the full graphics list.

Tips and common mistakes

  • Graphic not showing when you click an event? Check the context type matches the event. A graphic set to Card Event will not appear when you click a goal.

  • Fields are blank? Make sure Fact is set to Event under Context Values, and that the graphic has an Event control set to Type FACT.

  • Test before kick-off. Log a practice event in a test match so you know every event graphic fills in correctly.

  • Editing a live graphic. If a graphic is already on air and you change one of its control variables, the live graphic does not change until you click Update.

  • More context values. Depending on your template's controls, context values can also include Player, Team, Period and Minute.
