Managing Playlists in the Control Room

Written by Julian Rodrigues

Playlists let you trigger a pre-built sequence of graphics from the Control Room, either automatically as part of a Game Plan or manually when you want full control over when each graphic appears.

What Is a Playlist?

A Playlist is an ordered set of graphics that plays out together during a match. Instead of firing individual overlays one by one, you can group related graphics (like a pre-match lineup sequence or a half-time sponsor break) into a single Playlist and trigger them as a unit.

Playlists are commonly used for:

• Pre-match introductions (team lineups, head-to-head, venue)

• Half-time and full-time breakdowns

• Sponsor sequences

• Post-match stats and summaries

Prerequisites

Before managing Playlists in the Control Room, make sure:

• A Match has been created under a Competition

• A Theme Instance is assigned to the Competition

• Playlists have been configured (either manually or as part of a Game Plan)

• You have access to the Control Room via the Production Link

Accessing Playlists in the Control Room

1. Open the Match from your Matches list.

2. Click the Production Link to launch the Control Room.

3. Locate the Playlists panel in the Control Room interface.

4. You'll see all Playlists available for this Match, grouped by their purpose (pre-match, in-match, post-match).

Manual Mode vs Automated Game Plan

How Playlists behave depends on the mode your Match is running in.

Running Playlists in Manual Mode

In Manual Mode, nothing plays until you trigger it. This gives you full control over timing.

1. In the Control Room, switch the Match to Manual Mode.

2. Find the Playlist you want to run in the Playlists panel.

3. Click the Playlist to trigger it.

4. The graphics within the Playlist will play out in their configured order.

5. You can stop or clear the Playlist at any time using the Control Room controls.

Running Playlists with an Automated Game Plan

With an Automated Game Plan, Playlists fire automatically based on match events captured in the LiveScore App (such as kick-off, goals, or period changes).

1. Confirm the Match is set to use an Automated Game Plan.

2. Live Scorers record Match Facts in the LiveScore App.

3. The Game Plan rules trigger the correct Playlists at the right moments.

4. The Control Room operator monitors the output and can intervene if needed.

Overriding an Automated Playlist

Even when running an Automated Game Plan, you can take manual control of a Playlist at any time.

1. In the Control Room, locate the currently playing or queued Playlist.

2. Use the Control Room controls to stop or clear the Playlist.

3. Manually trigger a different Playlist from the Playlists panel if needed.

4. The Game Plan will continue to run for subsequent events.

Tips

• Always run through your Playlists in a test Match before going live to confirm timing and order.

• Use Manual Mode for high-stakes or unpredictable broadcasts where you want operator discretion over every graphic.

• For fast-paced matches with consistent event patterns, an Automated Game Plan reduces operator load.

• Keep Playlists short and focused — a single Playlist shouldn't try to do everything.

• Check your Theme Instance is up to date before the Match so Playlists render with the correct branding.

Common Issues

A Playlist isn't appearing in the Control Room Confirm the Playlist has been added to the Game Plan for this Competition and that the Theme Instance includes the required graphics.

A Playlist fires at the wrong moment in Automated mode Check the Game Plan rules and the Match Facts being sent from the LiveScore App. An incorrect or missing event will affect Playlist triggers.

Manual triggers aren't working Make sure the Match is set to Manual Mode, not running under an Automated Game Plan. Also confirm your stream Input is active so graphics have a video layer to render over.

Graphics within a Playlist look wrong This is usually a Theme Instance issue. Review the Theme Instance assigned to the Competition and confirm all graphics are configured correctly.
