Setting up a Custom RTMP Destination

Written by Julian Rodrigues

A Custom RTMP Destination lets you send your LIGR Live stream to any third-party platform or service that accepts an RTMP feed, beyond the built-in options like YouTube Live or Facebook Live.

What Is a Custom RTMP Destination?

A Destination is where your LIGR Live stream is sent after it leaves the platform. While LIGR supports direct integrations with common platforms, a Custom RTMP Destination gives you flexibility to push your stream to:

• Third-party streaming platforms not listed by default

• Custom RTMP endpoints provided by broadcasters or CDNs

• Internal review or monitoring servers

• Restreaming services

Before You Start

Make sure you have the following ready:

• An active Input configured in LIGR Live (the video source feeding into the platform)

• The RTMP URL from the platform or service you want to stream to

• The Stream Key provided by that platform

• Appropriate permissions on your Organisation (Owner, Admin, or User role)

Adding a Custom RTMP Destination

Step 1: Open the Streaming Section

1. From the left sidebar, click the Streaming tab.

2. Navigate to the Destinations area.

Step 2: Create a New Destination

1. Click Add Destination (or the equivalent button to create a new Destination).

2. From the list of Destination types, select Custom RTMP.

Step 3: Enter the RTMP Details

Fill in the fields with the information from your target platform:

Name — a label so you can identify this Destination later (e.g. "Broadcaster CDN" or "Backup Server")

RTMP URL — the server address, usually starting with rtmp:// or rtmps://

Stream Key — the unique key provided by the destination platform

Step 4: Save the Destination

1. Review the details to make sure the URL and Stream Key are entered correctly.

2. Click Save to add the Destination to your Organisation.

Step 5: Assign the Destination to a Match

1. Go to the Matches tab and open the Match you want to stream.

2. In the Match's streaming settings, assign your Input and select the Custom RTMP Destination you just created.

3. Start the stream when you are ready to go live.

Tips

• Give each Custom RTMP Destination a clear, descriptive name, especially if you maintain multiple endpoints for different broadcasters or backup paths.

• Keep your Stream Keys private. Treat them like passwords.

• Test the Destination with a short trial stream before using it on a live Match.

• If your target platform supports RTMPS (secure RTMP), use that version of the URL where possible.

Common Issues

The stream will not connect to the Destination

• Double-check the RTMP URL for typos, especially the path after the server address.

• Confirm the Stream Key is current — many platforms rotate or expire keys.

• Make sure the target platform is ready to receive a stream (some require you to "go live" on their end first).

Stream connects but drops repeatedly

• Check the stability of your Input feed from your encoder (OBS, vMix, or hardware encoder).

• Verify your upload bandwidth is sufficient for the bitrate you are sending.

The Destination is missing from the Match settings

• Ensure the Destination was saved successfully in the Streaming section.

• Refresh the Match page and try selecting it again.
