Themes determine the visual appearance of all graphics in your broadcast — scoreboards, lower thirds, player graphics, and every other overlay. In LIGR Live, themes are assigned at the competition level and automatically apply to every match created under that competition.
This means when you create a competition and select a theme, all matches created under that competition will use the same graphics package. You don't assign themes to individual matches — the connection flows from competition to match.
How Themes Are Assigned to Competitions
When you create a new competition, selecting a theme is a required step in the setup process:
1. Click Assets tab, then Competitions
2. Click Create a Competition
3. Browse available themes and click Select and Configure on your preferred theme
4. Review how the theme looks during different match moments (break graphics, in-match graphics, player graphics)
5. Select different skins if desired to change the color profile
6. Click Use this theme
7. Complete the rest of the competition setup (name, logos, watermarks, etc.)
Once created, the theme you selected becomes the default graphics package for that competition. Every match you create under this competition will use this theme automatically.
How the Theme Cascades to Matches
The connection between themes and matches flows through the competition structure:
Competition → Theme → All Matches
When you create a match, you select a competition first. The match inherits the theme assigned to that competition. You don't select a theme when creating the match — it's already determined by the competition you chose.
This cascading structure ensures consistency across all matches in a competition. If you're running a league with 50 matches, all 50 will have the same graphics package automatically.
Changing a Competition's Theme
You can change the theme assigned to a competition even after matches have been created. This updates the graphics for future matches and can affect existing matches depending on their status.
To update a competition's theme:
1. Click Assets → Competitions
2. Select the competition you wish to edit
3. Click the Theme Instances tab
4. Click Add Theme Instance
5. Select your new preferred theme from the theme selection page
6. Configure the theme settings as needed
The new theme will apply to the competition. All new matches created under this competition will use the updated theme.
Changing Theme Colors (Skins)
If you want to change the color profile of a competition's theme without changing the entire theme, you can update the skin:
1. Click Assets → Competitions
2. Select the competition you wish to edit
3. Click the Theme Instances tab
4. Find the theme you wish to edit from the list
5. Click the Edit icon button
6. Select Change Skin to modify the color profile
Themes include different skins (color profiles) that change the visual appearance while maintaining the same layout and graphic structure.
Competitions Can Have Multiple Theme Instances
A competition can have more than one theme instance. This is visible in the Theme Instances tab where you'll see a list of all themes that have been assigned to the competition.
When you add a new theme instance to a competition, it becomes the active theme for that competition. The previous theme remains in the list but is no longer the default for new matches.
What Themes Control
The theme assigned to a competition determines:
* Visual appearance of all overlays and graphics during broadcasts
* Layout and positioning of scoreboards, lower thirds, and player graphics
* Color schemes and branding elements (when combined with skins)
* What graphics look like during breaks, during play, and for player information
Themes are graphics packages that control everything viewers see on screen. The competition you select when creating a match determines which graphics package is used for that broadcast.
Where Themes Are Created
Themes are created in the Themes section of LIGR Live, which is separate from the Assets section where competitions are managed. Once a theme exists in the Themes library, it becomes available for selection when creating or editing competitions.
The relationship is:
* Themes section: Where themes are created and designed
* Assets → Competitions: Where themes are assigned to competitions
* Matches section: Where matches inherit themes from their competition
Practical Workflow Example
Here's how themes flow through a typical LIGR Live workflow:
1. A theme called "Premier League Graphics" is created in the Themes section
2. You create a competition called "2025 Premier League Season" and assign the "Premier League Graphics" theme during setup
3. You create 380 matches under the "2025 Premier League Season" competition
4. All 380 matches automatically use the "Premier League Graphics" theme
5. Halfway through the season, you update the theme to a new color skin in the competition's Theme Instances tab
6. All future matches use the updated theme colors automatically
This structure ensures visual consistency across your entire competition while giving you flexibility to update the look when needed.
Themes and Overlays
When you create an overlay for a match, the overlay uses the theme assigned to the match's competition. The overlay is the mechanism that displays graphics during your broadcast, and it pulls its visual design from the competition's theme.
If you change a competition's theme, existing overlays for matches under that competition will reflect the change when they're refreshed or when new overlays are created.
Common Questions
Can I assign different themes to different matches in the same competition?
No. All matches under a competition use the same theme. If you need different graphics for different matches, create separate competitions with different themes assigned.
What happens to existing matches when I change a competition's theme?
The theme change affects the competition level. New matches created under the competition will use the new theme. Existing matches may continue using the previous theme until their overlays are refreshed or recreated.
Can a competition have no theme?
No. Every competition must have at least one theme assigned. Theme selection is a required step when creating a competition.
Do I need to recreate matches if I change the competition's theme?
No. Matches remain valid when you change the competition's theme. However, you may need to refresh overlays for existing matches to see the updated graphics.
