Complete Guide to Football Automation Advertising

Overview

LIGR's football automation system offers two main advertising types: in-graphic ads that are embedded within your broadcast graphics, and detached ads that are standalone overlays positioned anywhere on screen. Advertising can be triggered by time intervals during pre-game and in-match periods, or by match events like goals, cards, and substitutions. You can manage ad assignment centrally from your organisation's library or delegate ad slots to participating clubs through the Club Portal.

This guide covers all advertising options available in LIGR's football automation system, including configuring in-graphic ad slots, setting up detached ads with custom positioning, creating time-triggered advertising intervals, setting up event-triggered advertising, and managing ad assignment and club delegation.

Prerequisites

* Access to the LIGR Automation platform

* A football game plan configured with Live, Pre-Game, and Post-Game sections

* Ad creatives in various sizes uploaded to your organisation

* Graphics with built-in ad slots configured in FUSE

* Understanding of game plan playlist structure

Understanding Advertising Options

LIGR offers two main ad types: in-graphic ads (baked into existing graphics as sponsor placements) and detached ads (standalone overlays at any size and position). Each type can be triggered by time, events, or assigned to specific playlist items.

In-graphic ads are advertisements that appear as part of your broadcast graphics — such as sponsor logos on scoreboards or ad banners within lower-thirds. These are constrained to the ad areas defined within the graphic itself. Common sizes include 1000×200 for full-width banners, 500×250 for half-width placements, and 1000×100 for thin banner strips.

Detached ads are standalone advertisement overlays that appear independently of your broadcast graphics. They can be positioned anywhere on the screen at any size, with their own timing and display rules. Unlike in-graphic ads which are constrained to specific slot sizes, detached ads can be any dimension.

Configuring In-Graphic Ad Slots

In-graphic ads are embedded within your broadcast graphics. To configure in-graphic ad slots within your game plan:

1. Navigate to the Automation section and open the game plan you want to add in-graphic ads to.

2. The game plan view shows all playlists (pre-game, live, post-game) and the graphics assigned to each.

3. Find the graphics that contain ad placement areas. These are defined in the FUSE graphic design as specific regions where ad images will be displayed.

4. Click on an ad slot to open the ad assignment panel.

5. You can select a specific ad creative from your organisation's ad library. This is useful for league-wide sponsors.

6. Use the game plan preview to verify that ads appear correctly within the graphics. Check positioning, sizing, and that the correct ads are displayed.

In-graphic ads appear as part of the graphic itself — they are baked in to the broadcast output. Common ad slot sizes include 1000×200 (full banner), 500×250 (half banner), and 1000×100 (thin banner).

Setting Up Detached Ads with Custom Positioning

Detached ads are standalone overlays that can be placed anywhere on screen at any size. To create detached ad placements:

1. In your game plan editor, find the Detached Ads section.

2. Add a new detached ad placement and configure its screen position and size.

3. Specify the X/Y coordinates and width/height. Unlike in-graphic ads which are constrained to specific slot sizes, detached ads can be any dimension.

4. Assign a specific ad creative from your organisation's library, or delegate the ad slot to the home or away club (covered in the delegation section below).

5. Set up when the detached ad should appear. Options include time-based triggers, event-based triggers, or manual triggers from the Control Room.

6. Configure the display duration for each appearance.

7. Use the game plan preview to verify the detached ad appears at the correct screen position and size. Check that it doesn't overlap with essential broadcast graphics.

Detached ads overlay on top of all other graphics. Use custom positioning to place ads in screen areas that don't interfere with gameplay visibility.

Configuring Time-Triggered Advertising

Set up ads to appear at specific time intervals during the match. Pre-game ads can run on rotation during the countdown period. In-match ads can be triggered every N minutes.

Time-triggered advertising displays ads at scheduled intervals regardless of match events. Configure time-based triggers when setting up detached ads or when adding ad items to playlists. Specify the interval frequency and display duration for each ad appearance.

Pre-game ads typically run on rotation during the countdown to kickoff. In-match ads can be set to appear at regular intervals during active gameplay.

Setting Up Event-Triggered Advertising

Create ads that display in response to match events like goals, cards, or half-time. Event-triggered ads can show sponsor branding during high-attention moments.

Event-triggered advertising responds to specific match events captured during the broadcast. When a goal is scored, a card is issued, or half-time begins, the associated ad displays automatically.

Configure event triggers when setting up ad placements in your game plan. Select the event type (goal, card, substitution, half-time) and assign the ad creative that should display when that event occurs.

Event-triggered ads during goals and half-time command the highest viewer attention — these are premium sponsor placements.

Managing Ad Assignment and Club Delegation

Assign ads centrally from your organisation's library or delegate slots to participating clubs. The Club Portal allows clubs to upload their own sponsor creatives.

Organisation-level assignment: Select a specific ad creative from your organisation's ad library when configuring an ad slot. This is useful for league-wide sponsors that should appear across all matches.

Club delegation: When configuring an ad slot, you can delegate it to the home or away club instead of assigning a specific ad. When a slot is delegated, the club uploads their ad set through the Club Portal and it displays automatically for their matches without any action required from you.

Organisation-level ads override club-delegated ads if both are assigned to the same slot. Delegating ad slots to clubs empowers them to manage their own sponsors through the Club Portal and reduces your administrative workload.

Ad Slot Configuration in Automated Game Plan Playlists

Ads in LIGR Live are controlled through Automated Game Plan playlists. You define exactly when and where ads appear by adding ad slots to playlists. Each playlist fires at a specific moment during the broadcast — such as pregame, halftime, or in-game intervals — and any ad slots within that playlist display at the configured time.

To add an ad slot to a playlist:

1. Navigate to the Automations tab and open the relevant Automated Game Plan.

2. Open the playlist where you want the ad to appear — for example, a halftime or pregame playlist.

3. Click Add Item to Sequence at the bottom of the playlist timeline.

4. Select Add Advertisement from the menu.

5. The Configure Ad Slot modal will open. Fill in the Ad Slot Name, Ad Sizes, Ad slot for (Home team, Away team, or general competition placement), Team type (Home, Away, or Neutral), Start Time (Offset), Duration, and Ad Position.

6. Drag the position marker on the 1920×1080 canvas to place the ad on screen. Use Grid Snap for precise alignment or Manual for free positioning.

7. Click Add Ad Slot to save it to the playlist timeline.

8. Assign an ad set to the slot — either select one from your organisation's library or delegate it to the home or away club.

For ads that appear during live gameplay rather than breaks, configure your ad slots in the In Game (Live) tab of your Automated Game Plan. These work the same way but fire in response to match events or time triggers during active play.

Enabling Ads on an Overlay

Ad slots will only display if the overlay assigned to your match has ads enabled. This is a separate step from configuring the ad slots in your playlists.

To enable ads on an overlay:

1. From the Matches tab, find your match and expand it.

2. Click the three-dot menu next to the overlay and select Settings.

3. Confirm the Ad Type is set to Brands — this is required for your own sponsor ads to appear. Free Tier shows LIGR advertising instead. No Brands shows no advertising at all.

4. Toggle Enable Ads to on.

5. Save.

If Enable Ads is off or Ad Type is not set to Brands, no sponsor ads will display on that overlay regardless of how your playlists are configured.

Common Issues and Solutions

Ads not appearing on output

Check these in order:

1. Feature type — confirm the match overlay is using Graphics + Brands. If Ad Type is set to Graphics only or Free, your ad sets will not display. Check the overlay settings in the Matches tab.

2. Enable Ads toggle — go to the overlay settings and confirm Enable Ads is toggled on. This must be enabled even if the ad type is set to Brands.

3. Ad slot configuration — confirm the ad slot exists in the correct playlist in your Automated Game Plan and that the game plan is assigned to the correct competition.

4. Green dot — confirm the ad set has a green dot. All seven image sizes must be uploaded before an ad set can display.

Delegated slot is empty during broadcast

The club has not uploaded an ad set to their Club Portal or has not assigned it to the delegated slot. Contact the club to confirm their ad set is uploaded and assigned.

Tips and Best Practices

* Use a mix of in-graphic and detached ads to maximise advertising real estate without cluttering the broadcast.

* Standard in-graphic sizes: 1000×200 (full banner), 500×250 (half banner), 1000×100 (thin strip).

* Event-triggered ads during goals and half-time command the highest viewer attention — premium sponsor placements.

* Delegate ad slots to clubs for local sponsors while keeping league-wide sponsors at the organisation level.

* Time-triggered ads should have display durations of 10-15 seconds.

* Always preview the full ad configuration to check for overlapping placements and timing conflicts.

* Detached ads can be any size — they are not constrained to standard ad slot dimensions.

* Club Portal integration allows clubs to upload their own sponsor content for delegated ad slots.

* Combine time-based triggers with event triggers for maximum advertising flexibility during broadcasts.
