Edit an Overlay

Change any overlay setting after it's created, such as ad type, stream, theme profile or control mode, using Configure on the Matches table.

You can change any setting on an overlay after you've created it, from its name and stream to its ad type, theme profile and control mode. You do it with Configure, straight from the overlay's row on the Matches table.

Before you start

  • The match needs at least one overlay. If it doesn't have one yet, add one first (see Add an Overlay to a Match).

  • You need access to the match in the Matches tab.

Open the overlay

  1. Go to Matches and find the match.

  2. Click the arrow on the match row to expand it. Each overlay has its own row, showing its stream, control mode and ad type.

  3. Open the menu at the end of the overlay's row.

  4. Click Configure.

The Update Overlay pop-up opens. It has the same fields as Create Overlay, already filled in with the overlay's current settings, so you only need to touch the fields you want to change.

Change any field

Here's what each field controls, and what changing it means.

  • Control Room: the control room that runs this overlay's graphics. Switch it if you want a different set of sections and graphics for this feed.

  • Overlay Template: a saved set of overlay settings from your competition. Picking a template fills the fields with its values.

  • For Stream: the stream these graphics go on. Use this to link an overlay you created before the stream existed, or to move it to another stream.

  • Overlay Name: rename it to something your team will recognise, like Main Feed or Big Screen.

  • Ad Type: No Brands means no ads and uses Graphics hours. Brands turns ads on and uses Graphics plus Brands hours.

  • Enable Ads: must be on, together with Brands, for ads to actually show.

  • Theme Profile: the look of your graphics. Change it to restyle every graphic on this overlay.

  • Auto Background, Live Background and Encoding Delay: extra display options. Leave them at their defaults unless you know you need them.

  • Auto Mode: on means graphics appear automatically as match events are logged. Off means you run them from the Control Room.

  • Show Primary Watermark and Show Secondary Watermark: show or hide your competition logos.

In the video, the ad type is switched from Brands to No Brands. That turns ads off for this overlay, and from then on it uses Graphics hours instead of Graphics plus Brands hours.

Save your changes

  1. Check the fields you changed.

  2. Click Update.

Your changes are saved to this overlay only. Other overlays on the same match, and the overlay template in your competition settings, stay as they were. If you change your mind before saving, click Close and nothing is changed.

Tips and common mistakes

  • Turning ads back on? Set Ad Type to Brands and make sure Enable Ads is on. One without the other means no ads.

  • Editing a template doesn't update existing overlays. A template only sets the starting values when an overlay is created. To change an overlay that already exists, use Configure.

  • Make big changes before kick-off. Switching the control room, theme profile or stream mid-match changes what your operator and viewers see. Watermarks can safely be switched on or off at any time, even during a live broadcast.

  • Check the result. Expand the match on the Matches table to confirm the overlay's stream, control mode and ad type, or use Preview graphics to check the new look.
