When your edit is built, the last job is to smooth the cuts, check your export settings and render the finished file. All of this lives in the Settings panel on the right of the Video Editor.

Before you start
Have a sequence open in the Video Editor with at least two clips on the timeline, so there is a cut to put a transition on.
Play the edit through once in the preview player so you know it is ready to export.
Open the Settings panel
The right panel changes depending on what you have selected. With a clip selected it shows that clip's Properties. With nothing selected it shows your Settings, which apply to the whole edit.
Click an empty part of the timeline so no clip is selected.
The right panel switches to Settings.
At the top, under Details, name the file and pick a preset. The preset controls the aspect ratio and resolution your video exports at, for example landscape, portrait, square or vertical.
Set a default transition
A default transition is used on every new cut you make, so you don't have to add one by hand each time.
In Settings, open the default transition dropdown.
Choose a transition, for example Cross Dissolve. From now on, each new cut in your edit uses it.
To use it on the cuts you already have, click Apply to All Cuts. Every cut in your edit now uses the same transition.
You can also add a dissolve to a single cut. When two video clips or images touch edge to edge, click the join between them to add a dissolve transition. Once it's added, click and drag up or down over the transition icon to make it longer or shorter. Transitions work alongside clip animations, so a clip can dissolve into the next one while it slides or zooms.
Check your export settings
Work through each section of Settings before you export. These settings decide how the finished file looks and where it goes.
Video
Shows the resolution, frame rate and codec your file will use, based on your preset. This is also where you'll find Clip Content to Canvas. With it on, anything outside the frame is hidden. Turn it off if you need to see content that sits off screen, for example while a clip slides in.
Audio
Sets the audio codec and bitrate for the export. A higher bitrate gives better sound and a larger file.
Broadcast
Turn on Broadcast-Safe Export when the video is going to TV and needs to meet broadcast standards. Leave it off for normal web and social use.
Meta Data
Add or review the metadata attached to the file.
Publish
Publish sends the finished file to S3 storage once the export is done.
Save and export
Click Save Sequence to keep your work. This saves your edit so you can come back to it later. It does not create a video file. A short Saved message confirms it worked.
Click Export Video to render the finished file using your settings.
The export list shows the progress of each export. A green banner means the export finished. A red banner means something went wrong.
Exports run in the background. You can leave the editor, or start editing another sequence, while it finishes. If you hide the export list and leave, it shows again next time you come back to the editor. Your original media is never changed. The export is always a new file.
Auto-save
The editor saves your changes to the sequence automatically as you work, so you are unlikely to lose progress. You can still click Save Sequence whenever you like. If you try to leave the editor with unsaved changes, you're asked to save first.
Tips and common mistakes
Pick your preset before you fine-tune size and position. Changing the aspect ratio later can move things out of place.
Saving is not exporting. If you only click Save Sequence, you won't get a video file.
Only turn on Broadcast-Safe Export when you need it for TV delivery.
If an export shows a red banner, check your clips play correctly in the preview, then try the export again.
