Assigning Game Plans to Matches

Assigning a Game Plan to a Match tells LIGR Live which automated playlists and event triggers to run for that Match, and which graphics will fire across Pre-Game, Live gameplay, and Post-Game.

This guide covers how to attach an existing Game Plan to a Match, and explains how the playlist structure, priorities, and triggers behave once the Match is live.

Prerequisites

Before you start, make sure you have:

• An existing Competition with at least one Match created

• A Game Plan already configured for the Competition

• A Theme Instance assigned to the Competition overlay (Competition > Settings > Streams and Overlays > Overlay Settings)

• Admin, Owner, or Gameday Operator access to the Match

What a Game Plan Does on a Match

A Game Plan is the automation blueprint for a Match. Once assigned, it controls:

• Pre-Game playlists (for example, lineups, countdowns, sponsor graphics, match preview)

• Live gameplay event triggers (goals, cards, substitutions, period changes, milestones)

• Post-Game playlists (for example, full-time results, player of the match, summary graphics)

• The set of graphics made available for the Match

Pre-Game Playlists

Pre-Game playlists run before kick-off. They are typically time-based or sequenced and cover build-up content such as starting lineups, head-to-head, sponsor reels, and countdowns. If the Match is opened after the scheduled start time, earlier Pre-Game items may be skipped.

Live Gameplay Playlists

Live gameplay playlists are event-triggered. They fire on Match Facts generated during the Match:

• Goals (including scorer and assist data where available)

• Cards (yellow, red, second yellow)

• Substitutions (player on and player off)

• Period changes (period start, half time, full time, extra time)

• Milestones and other in-play events

Each event-triggered playlist is attached to a specific Match Fact type. When that event is recorded, the matching playlist fires.

Post-Game Playlists

Post-Game playlists run after the final period ends. These typically include final score, player of the match, top performers, and wrap-up sponsor content.

Priority and Playlist Ordering

Every playlist inside a Game Plan has a priority. Priority determines which playlist takes precedence when multiple playlists could fire at the same time.

• Higher priority playlists will run ahead of lower priority ones when there is a conflict.

• When two playlists within the same Game Plan share the same priority, the first one built will fire.

• Set priority deliberately for key moments (for example, a goal playlist should sit above ambient sponsor rotations).

Playlist Guards for Missing Data

Some event-triggered playlists rely on player or team data that may not always be present (for example, a goal scored by an unlisted player, or a substitution where the incoming player is unknown).

When building a Game Plan, guard your playlists so they handle missing data cleanly:

• Only include graphics that require a player name inside playlists that are guaranteed to receive that data.

• Provide a fallback playlist (or fallback graphics within the playlist) for events where player details are incomplete.

• Use priority to ensure the guarded fallback runs when the full-data playlist cannot.

This prevents empty fields or broken graphics from appearing on the output.

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Open the Match

1. From your Organisation dashboard, go to the Matches section.

2. Locate the Match you want to assign a Game Plan to.

3. Click the Match to open its settings page.

Step 2: Navigate to the Game Plan Settings

1. Inside the Match, open the Automation or Game Plan section of the Match settings.

2. You will see the current Game Plan assignment (if any) for this Match.

Step 3: Select a Game Plan

1. Click the Game Plan dropdown or selector.

2. Choose the Game Plan you want to run for this Match.

3. Confirm the selection.

Only Game Plans linked to the same Competition as the Match will appear in the list.

Step 4: Confirm the Theme Instance

1. Check that the correct Theme Instance is applied to the Competition overlay used by this Match.

2. If your Competition uses multiple overlays (for example, a full-graphics stream and a scoreboard-only stream), each overlay has its own Theme Instance and Game Plan. Confirm the right combination is assigned for the output you need.

Step 5: Save and Review

1. Save the Match settings.

2. Review the Match to confirm:

• Pre-Game, Live gameplay, and Post-Game playlists are configured as expected

• Event triggers cover the Match Facts you expect to record

• Priorities across playlists reflect your intended order of precedence

Tips

• Assign the Game Plan before the Match goes live to avoid missing Pre-Game playlists.

• If you update a Game Plan, changes apply to every Match using it. Test on a non-live Match first.

• Use separate Game Plans for different Match types (for example, finals vs regular season) within the same Competition.

• If you are running dual outputs, confirm each overlay's Theme Instance and Game Plan pairing is correct.

• Review priorities on event-triggered playlists before kick-off, especially where multiple playlists could respond to the same Match Fact.

Common Issues

The Game Plan I want is not showing in the dropdown The Game Plan must belong to the same Competition as the Match. Check the Competition assignment on the Game Plan.

Graphics are not triggering automatically during the Match Confirm the Match is using an Automated Game Plan, and that the expected Match Facts are being recorded. Event-triggered playlists only fire when their matching event is logged.

Pre-Game playlist did not play Pre-Game playlists run based on timing rules set in the Game Plan. If the Match was opened after the scheduled start, earlier Pre-Game items may be skipped.

Two playlists fired in the wrong order Check the priority set on each playlist. If both share the same priority, the first built will fire. Adjust priorities to make the ordering explicit.

A triggered graphic appeared with blank player details The playlist was not guarded for missing data. Add a fallback playlist for events where player information may be incomplete, and use priority to control which version runs.

Wrong graphics appearing Check the Theme Instance assigned to the Competition overlay this Match is using. A different Theme Instance may be applying a different graphic set.
