How to Edit a Theme Instance

Written by Julian Rodrigues
Updated today

Editing a Theme Instance lets you adjust the configuration of a Theme assigned to one of your Competition overlays without altering the underlying Theme itself.

What Is a Theme Instance?

Themes are platform-level assets built by the LIGR team and assigned to your Organisation. A Theme Instance is a customer-level configuration of one of those Themes, applied at the Competition overlay level.

A Competition can have multiple overlays, and each overlay has its own Theme Instance and Game Plan. For example, one overlay might carry a full-graphics broadcast configuration while another drives a scoreboard-only output. Editing a Theme Instance updates how graphics appear for every match that uses the overlay it is assigned to.

Before You Start

Make sure you have:

• An existing Competition with at least one overlay configured

• A Theme Instance assigned to that overlay

• Admin or Owner permissions on your Organisation

How to Edit a Theme Instance

1. From the main menu, go to the Competitions section.

2. Select the Competition that contains the overlay you want to update.

3. Go to Settings, then Streams and Overlays.

4. Open Overlay Settings and locate the overlay whose Theme Instance you want to edit.

5. Open the Theme Instance configuration for that overlay.

6. Make your changes to the available settings.

7. Save your changes.

What You Can Configure in a Theme Instance

Depending on how the Theme has been built by the LIGR team, a Theme Instance may expose options such as:

• Default graphics and assets used by the overlay

• Visibility and behaviour settings for graphics provided by the Theme

• The Game Plan or playlists tied to the overlay (for example, a scoreboard-only live playlist)

• Theme-specific configuration options made available on the instance

• Output configuration for the stream the overlay feeds

Applying Changes to Matches

Changes to a Theme Instance apply to:

• New matches created under the Competition using the overlay that references the instance

• Existing matches that reference the instance, once the production session is reloaded

If a match is currently live, the production session may need to be refreshed to pull the updated configuration.

Tips

• Duplicate a Theme Instance before making major changes so you have a fallback configuration.

• Use clear, descriptive names for each Theme Instance (for example, "Main Broadcast" versus "Scoreboard Only") to avoid confusion during match setup.

• Test edits on a non-live match before applying them to a scheduled broadcast.

• When a Competition has multiple overlays, confirm which Theme Instance feeds which output before editing.

Common Issues

• Changes not appearing in a live match: reload the match or refresh the production session to pull the latest Theme Instance configuration.

• Graphics look different than expected: check that you edited the correct Theme Instance. A Competition can have more than one overlay, each with its own instance.

• Cannot edit an instance: confirm you have Admin or Owner access. Standard Users and Gameday Operators may have limited permissions.

• A setting you expected is not available: the options exposed on a Theme Instance are determined by the Theme itself. If something you need is not configurable, contact LIGR support to discuss the Theme.
